BEIRUT, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- The first Kuwaiti oil tanker arrived in Lebanese territorial waters on Saturday under a deal to supply Lebanon with urgently needed fuel for its power plants, according to the office of Lebanon's energy minister.
Under the agreement, Kuwait will provide 132,000 metric tons of gas oil to Lebanon's state-run power utility EDL, with 66,000 tons granted as a donation.
Energy Minister Joe Saddi said the deal will not add to Lebanon's public debt as the cost of the purchased oil will be covered through revenues collected by EDL.
He also expressed gratitude to Kuwait, highlighting its longstanding support for Lebanon during times of crisis. ■
