KABUL, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have launched the construction of three water supply projects in western Afghanistan's Ghor and Herat provinces, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported Sunday.
The three networks, which cost nearly 300,000 U.S. dollars, will provide clean water to hundreds of families in these provinces, where residents have been suffering from years of droughts and severe water shortages, the news agency added.
The projects will also help local farmers irrigate hundreds of acres of farmland, the report added.
Over the past several years, residents of major cities, including the capital Kabul, have been facing acute shortages of drinking water. ■
