NEW DELHI, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 people were killed and three others critically injured Saturday in a collision between an autorickshaw and a truck in the eastern Indian state of Bihar, the police said.
The accident took place on Daniyawan-Hilsa state highway-4 in Patna, the capital city of Bihar.
"Today, a truck rammed into the autorickshaw, carrying 13 people, including the driver, that was coming from the opposite direction. Seven people were killed on the spot while three others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital," a senior police official said. "Three injured have been moved to the hospital, and their condition is stated to be critical."
Officials said of the 10 deceased, nine were women and the tenth was identified as the autorickshaw driver.
The autorickshaw was completely crushed due to the impact of the collision.
The police suspect the accident was caused by the truck driver, as he fled from the scene after the crash.
The police have registered a case and ordered an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident. A police team has been formed to arrest the truck driver. ■
