ISLAMABAD, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- At least 24 people lost their lives and 15 others sustained injuries in rain-triggered incidents across Pakistan in the past 24 hours, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said Thursday.
The highest number of casualties was reported in northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where 21 people died, including 14 children. Southern Sindh province recorded two fatalities, while one death was reported in the Pakistan-controlled Kashmir.
Officials said the deaths mostly occurred due to house collapses, flash floods, and electrocution triggered by heavy monsoon rains, the NDMA said.
Since late June, seasonal rains have claimed 771 lives nationwide in Pakistan, official data showed. ■
