TEHRAN, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Five policemen were killed on Friday in an attack by "terrorists" in Iran's southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.
The "terrorists" attacked two police patrol units in Damen District of Iranshahr County as the law enforcement forces were on patrol duty, Fars quoted the provincial police as saying.
It added operations were launched to identify and arrest the assailants.
Sistan and Baluchestan, a province bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan, has witnessed recurring clashes between Iranian security forces, militants from the Baloch minority, and drug traffickers. ■
