KABUL, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Counter-narcotics police have seized more than 13,000 kilograms of illicit drugs over the past year in southern Afghanistan's Kandahar province, local media reported Friday.
According to the report, the confiscated contraband included 13,332 kg of poppy, heroin, hashish, and other substances used in producing heroin. Around 30 individuals have been arrested in connection with the cases.
The Afghan interim authorities have repeatedly pledged to continue anti-narcotics operations, eradicate cultivation, and promote alternative livelihoods as part of efforts to combat the drug trade. ■
