ULAN BATOR, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia's National Emergency Management Agency on Friday reported a sharp rise in water levels of several major rivers due to continuous heavy rainfall.

As of Friday morning, several major rivers, including Kharaa, Eruu, Tuul, Terelj, have surpassed warning levels by 35 cm to 50 cm, the agency said, adding that water levels of these rivers are expected to rise in the coming days.

Heavy rains have been hitting large parts of the country, including western, northern and central regions, since Wednesday morning.

The agency has urged residents living near riverbanks to take precautionary measures.
