DHAKA, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- In a significant step to address the growing threat of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), Bangladesh's 35 ministries and divisions signed a "Declaration on Control of NCDs" on Wednesday.

The declaration aimed to foster integrated action and collaboration across various sectors to prevent and control NCDs like diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and chronic respiratory illnesses and also aligned with health related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Bangladeshi interim government's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus said the declaration will be a new milestone for health protection as it will help achieve the goals.

Yunus said NCDs are spreading worldwide day by day, and the situation is even more critical in Bangladesh.

"So, it is perhaps the most important aspect of national health management, which is closely related not only to the health sector, but also to our overall economy, social security and sustainable development," he said.
