MADRID, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- La Liga outfit Villarreal is set to sign a defender and a striker to conclude its summer transfer activity.
The Yellow Submarine has agreed a fee with Minnesota United for Canada international striker Tani Oluwaseyi for 6.5 million euros (7.5 million US dollars).
Nigeria-born Oluwaseyi is expected to compensate for the departures of Alex Baena to Atletico Madrid and Thierno Barry to Everton earlier this summer, while Gerard Moreno is likely to be sidelined for several weeks with a hamstring injury sustained during Villarreal's opening day win against Oviedo.
The club is also close to completing the signing of Portuguese defender Renato Veiga from Chelsea as it prepares to return to the Champions League following a fifth-place finish in last season's La Liga campaign.
Veiga, 22, will sign a seven-year contract, with Villarreal paying around 30 million euros for the player, who has been deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge after making just 18 appearances since joining from FC Basel in 2024.
Veiga can play at left-back or center-back, although his desire to play centrally led to a disagreement with Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca midway through last season.
Veiga will have his medical at Villarreal on Thursday, with the move expected to be confirmed soon afterwards. ■
