ANTANANARIVO, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Madagascar welcomed more than 150,000 international tourists in the first half of 2025, an increase of more than 3,000 arrivals compared to the same period last year, according to the latest figures released by the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts.

Among the first six months of 2025, April saw the largest influx, with 32,483 international arrivals.

Those arrivals confirm the recovery of tourism since 2024, when Madagascar recorded 147,822 international arrivals in the first half of the year, exceeding the 126,733 tourists in the same period in 2019, the reference year before the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2024, tourism revenues reached more than 780 million U.S. dollars, according to the ministry.

The Madagascan government aims to reach one million tourists by 2028, positioning the sector as a key driver of the country's development.
