JERUSALEM, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Israel's flagship airline El Al announced in a statement on Tuesday that it will resume domestic flights in October, reopening its Tel Aviv-Eilat route nearly 12 years after suspending the service.
El Al halted flights between Ben Gurion International Airport and the old Eilat Airport in November 2013 due to security and financial concerns. The renewed service will operate to Ramon Airport, which replaced Eilat's city airport in 2019.
Currently, El Al operates only international flights, while Israeli carriers Arkia and Israir serve the Tel Aviv-Eilat route.
The airline said the resumption, requested by the Ministry of Transport, is intended to improve access for residents of Eilat and southern Israel and strengthen nationwide transport links. ■
