JERUSALEM, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Friday said in a statement that it had struck and killed a senior Hamas commander in the southern Gaza Strip.
According to the statement, Nasser Musa, who was targeted in Khan Younis last Saturday, was a senior member of the Rafah Brigade and served as the head of Hamas' military control department.
The Israeli army added that Musa was responsible for the operational readiness and exercises of the brigade. In addition, Musa also held several other roles in the brigade, including in military intelligence and the observation array, according to the Israeli army.
"Musa's elimination further degrades the Rafah Brigade's operational capabilities and Hamas terrorists' abilities to carry out attacks against IDF troops in the area," the statement read.
Hamas has not issued a comment regarding the claim. ■
