ANKARA, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- A total of 411,649 Syrians have returned from Türkiye since December 8 last year, semi-official Anadolu Agency reported Thursday, quoting data from the Turkish Presidency of Migration Management.
The number of Syrians who have returned since 2016 has now reached 1,151,652, according to Anadolu. Meanwhile, the number of Syrians under temporary protection in Türkiye currently stands at 2,543,711.
Millions of Syrians fled their country following the outbreak of a civil war in 2011. Türkiye, sharing a long border with Syria, became a major refuge, hosting more than 3.6 million Syrians at the peak of the crisis, according to UN figures.
Following former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's ouster on Dec. 8, 2024, a large number of Syrian refugees abroad began their journey back to their homeland. ■
