KABUL, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Police have thwarted attempts to traffic illegal drugs, including heroin, and took into custody three alleged drug smugglers in the western Afghanistan Nimroz province, Provincial Director for Counter-Narcotics Mawlawi Faiz Mohammad Faizani said Wednesday.
The alleged drug smugglers, according to the official, were attempting to traffic illicit drugs, including 1.4 kg of heroin, 43 kg of opium poppy and other illegal objects via the Pul-i-Abrisham area outside the provincial capital Zaranj, have been foiled.
All three suspected drug smugglers have been detained and are being investigated, the official further said.
Earlier in similar operations, police reported the discovery of 343 kg of drugs, including opium poppy, heroin and methamphetamine during operations in the southern Uruzgan province on Friday. ■
