SEOUL, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export of information and communications technology (ICT) products rose for the sixth straight month due to strong semiconductor demand, government data showed Wednesday.

The ICT products shipment jumped 14.5 percent from a year earlier to 22.19 billion U.S. dollars in July, maintaining an upward trend since February, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Chip export surged 31.2 percent to 14.72 billion dollars on robust demand for high-end products, including double data rate 5 and high bandwidth memory used in generative artificial intelligence chipsets.

Display panel shipment declined 8.9 percent to 1.76 billion dollars, and mobile phone export tumbled 21.7 percent to 960 million dollars.

Shipment for computers and peripherals dipped 17.1 percent to 1.09 billion dollars, but communications equipment export grew 4.6 percent to 200 million dollars.

Import for ICT products mounted 9.8 percent over the year to 13.32 billion dollars in July, sending the trade surplus in the ICT industry to 8.87 billion dollars.

Import for chips, mobile devices and computers gained ground, but those for display panels and communications equipment logged a double-digit fall last month.
