KABUL, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced Wednesday the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kyrgyzstan to enhance bilateral trade and economic cooperation, the ministry said in a statement.

The agreement was signed in Bishkek by acting Afghan Minister of Commerce and Industry Nooruddin Azizi and Kyrgyz Economy and Commerce Minister Bakyt Sydykov, following discussion on a wide range of initiatives, the statement added.

According to the statement, the two sides also discussed a joint trade center, mechanisms for setting up trade houses and commercial centers, facilitating regular in-person and virtual meetings, organizing economic forums, exhibitions, and business meetings, a joint working ground to advance commercial centers, as well as promoting joint investment in Afghanistan, it said.

Since taking power in August 2021, the Afghan interim government has been actively seeking to expand its economic partnerships, with a focus on boosting regional trade connectivity and attracting foreign investment in the poverty-stricken country.
