NEW DELHI, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people, including two women and two girls, died and a few others were injured when a wall collapsed on them while they were asleep late Friday in Delhi, confirmed a local police officer.
The mishap occurred in South East Delhi's Hari Nagar area amid incessant rains.
All the victims were laborers living in makeshift hutments. Among the injured were some in critical conditions.
"The wall collapsed due to the rains. Rescue teams recovered the trapped residents and evacuated the remaining hutments to prevent further incidents," senior police officer Aishwarya Sharma said.
Meanwhile, one person died when a fire broke out inside a private hospital in East Delhi on Saturday afternoon. As many as 11 patients had to be instantly shifted to another hospital.
A total of 11 persons were rescued from different floors of the hospital on fire, and admitted to nearby Pushpanjali Hospital, said a senior official of the Delhi Fire Service, adding that one person who was hospital staff was declared dead due to suffocation. ■
