JERUSALEM, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Hungarian low-cost carrier group Wizz Air resumed its flights to Israel on Friday, following a suspension that began in mid-June due to the 12-day Israel-Iran conflict.

The airline marked its return with a flight from Larnaca Airport in Cyprus, which landed at Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv.

Wizz Air was the most active foreign airline operating in Israel in 2023, carrying approximately 2 million passengers through the Israeli airport, according to an annual report issued by the Israel Airports Authority.

Before the Israeli multi-front conflict that erupted in October 2023, the airline operated more than 100 weekly flights to Israel from 28 European cities. However, ongoing regional instability has led to periodic suspensions and adjustments to its flight schedule.

Following the resumption of service from Larnaca, Wizz Air is expected to gradually restart flights from additional European cities to Israel in the coming weeks.
