TEHRAN, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, on Thursday called on Muslim states to take effective actions to stop the genocide and ensure immediate delivery of humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.

They made the urge in a phone call on Thursday night when exchanging views on the serious humanitarian crisis in Palestine's enclave of the Gaza Strip and Israel's aggressive plans to intensify its offensive and completely occupy Gaza, according to a statement released by the Iranian foreign ministry on Friday.

Nearly two years into the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Gaza is unraveling under the weight of starvation and siege. At least 61,258 people have been killed and 152,045 others injured since October 2023, according to Gaza-based health authorities. Yet ceasefire talks have ground to a halt, with Israel approving a plan to take over Gaza City.

During their phone call, the second one this week, the two ministers also reviewed the situation in Lebanon, highlighting the necessity to maintain an atmosphere of trust and internal concord among different political parties in the Arab state and refrain from actions that could lead to internal tensions.

They described as necessary Israel's complete withdrawal from the occupied regions south of Lebanon and the cessation of Israeli attacks, according to the statement.
