BEIRUT, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Six people were killed and 10 others injured Thursday in two separate Israeli airstrikes on eastern Lebanon, according to official Lebanese sources.
The Public Health Emergency Operations Center, affiliated with the Ministry of Public Health, said in a release that one Israeli airstrike on the Masnaa road initially resulted in five deaths and 10 injuries, and the other on the town of Kfardan, Baalbek district, resulted in one death.
In a separate development, the official Lebanese National News Agency reported that the Lebanese cabinet approved Thursday in a meeting the goals outlined in a U.S. proposal for the disarmament of Hezbollah.
"We have agreed to end the armed presence throughout the entire territory, including that of Hezbollah, and to deploy the Lebanese army in the border areas," Lebanese Minister of Information Paul Morcos said after the meeting.
Since Nov. 27, 2024, a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States and France has been in effect between Hezbollah and Israel, putting an end to clashes that had erupted in the wake of the war in Gaza.
Despite the agreement, the Israeli army occasionally carries out strikes in Lebanon, claiming they are meant to eliminate "threats" posed by Hezbollah. ■
