JAKARTA, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has directed the government to provide medical assistance to approximately 2,000 Gazans who have been injured in the ongoing conflict, Hasan Nasbi, head of the Indonesian Presidential Communication Office, said here on Thursday.
"Regarding Gaza, the president yesterday instructed that medical assistance be provided to approximately 2,000 Gazans who were victims of the war -- those injured perhaps by bombs, debris, and other causes," Nasbi said during a press conference at the Presidential Communication Office.
According to Nasbi, the government has selected health facilities on Galang Island in Riau Islands Province to carry out the treatment, as they are considered adequate for the required medical care. Prabowo issued the directive during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
Nasbi emphasized that this initiative is not an evacuation effort, but part of a humanitarian mission to provide temporary medical care. Once patients recover, they will be returned to Gaza.
"We're not relocating residents, but rather conducting a humanitarian operation to help as many as we can," Nasbi said. ■
