BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Independiente has secured Uruguayan winger Matias Abaldo on loan from Defensor Sporting, the Argentine club said on Wednesday.
Abaldo, who has 10 months left on his Defensor contract, agreed to a deal that runs until next June and includes a purchase option.
"I'm very happy to join a club like Independiente, a giant in the region," Abaldo told Uruguayan radio station Sport 890. "I obviously take this challenge as another test and I have great enthusiasm and a desire to prove myself again."
The 21-year-old returned to his original club Defensor in February following a spell at Argentine outfit Gimnasia.
"My time in Uruguay was fundamental to being able to take this step again," the Uruguay under-23 international said.
"Obviously, I'm grateful to Defensor for having opened career doors for me. My time here was short but I'm very thankful to everyone for making me feel at home." ■
