BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Brunei has implemented various strategic initiatives to promote its tourism sector, which plays a vital role in the nation's economic development, a government minister said on Wednesday.
The initiatives include active participation in international tourism expos, business networking sessions, and promotional activities involving social influencers to reach global audiences, said Haji Abdul Manaf Metussin, minister of primary resources and tourism, at the legislative council.
He said the ministry is also organizing familiarization trips focusing on niche tourism segments such as adventure, golf, and scuba diving in Brunei.
To enhance industry collaboration, product development sessions are being conducted involving stakeholders such as the Village Consultative Council, tour operators, event managers, and hospitality providers. These efforts aim to develop well-coordinated and integrated tourism packages.
The ministry is working to raise the standards of tourism services, including tour guiding, hotel management, and restaurant services. Ecotourism based on forest resources is also being developed responsibly to generate income and promote environmental conservation. ■
