BUDAPEST, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Hungary's Sziget Festival, one of Europe's largest music and cultural events, opened its gates on Wednesday on Budapest's Obuda Island, offering a renewed experience across six days and more than 55 countries and regions.

This year's edition introduces four distinct "districts," each designed to reflect artistic or multicultural themes. Some 1,000 programs are scheduled across 50 venues, including around 400 musical acts and 150 artistic or immersive performances, according to the organizers.

New features include the Paradox, a 3.3-hectare area focused on circus, illusion and performance art, and the multicultural Szoho district, which hosts hip-hop, slam poetry, and pop-up street culture.

Established in 1993, the Sziget Festival has evolved into a global sensation. The festival hit its peak in 2018, with a record 565,000 attendees. Last year, the event drew 390,000 visitors. This year's festival will run until Aug. 11.
