DAR ES SALAAM, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania has successfully traded more than 200,000 tonnes of sesame through the Tanzania Mercantile Exchange (TMX), a government-backed digital platform designed to manage commodity auctions, TMX Business Operations Officer Mahama Kadikilo announced Tuesday.
Kadikilo highlighted the platform's role in revolutionizing the agricultural market by providing fairer prices to farmers and fostering transparent price competition among buyers.
He noted that this digital system offers a significant improvement over traditional selling methods, which often lacked fairness and efficiency.
"The Lindi Region leads the way, having sold approximately 74,000 tonnes of sesame through TMX so far," Kadikilo said, adding that more farmers are embracing the professionally managed auction system as a result.
This milestone, he emphasized, marks a growing awareness among producers about the benefits of modern, transparent, and officially regulated sales platforms. ■
