RAMALLAH, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian youth was killed and another wounded on Monday during a military operation by the Israeli army in the northern West Bank, according to Palestinian sources.
"We were informed by the General Authority for Civil Affairs of the killing of Yousef Imad Ibrahim al-Amer, 33, near the town of Qabatiya, south of Jenin," the Ramallah-based health ministry said in a brief statement.
In a separate statement, the General Authority for Civil Affairs announced that Qusay Amin Suleiman al-Saadi, 21, was wounded during the operation and arrested by Israeli forces.
According to local Palestinian sources, Israeli forces surrounded a tin-covered agricultural facility in southern Qabatiya and opened fire at it. They also fired shoulder-fired missiles, setting fires inside the facility.
The sources added that residents attempted to reach the site and retrieve al-Amer's body, but Israeli forces stormed the area with a military bulldozer and completely demolished the facility.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society confirmed in a brief statement that its crews recovered al-Amer's body from under the rubble of the facility.
Also on Monday, the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement that its forces operated in Qabatiya, "apprehended an active terrorist in the Jenin Terrorist Network, along with two of his accomplices," and located "an M16 rifle and a magazine" after searches in the area. ■
