Indonesia's July inflation rises to 2.37 pct

JAKARTA, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's inflation reached 2.37 percent year on year in July, driven mainly by rising prices of food, beverages, and tobacco, Statistics Indonesia reported on Friday.

The food, beverage, and tobacco group contributed the most to the annual inflation in July, accounting for 1.08 percentage points of the total increase.

Among provinces, the highest annual inflation was recorded in South Papua at 5.45 percent, followed by Highland Papua at 5.15 percent and Southeast Sulawesi at 3.72 percent.

On a monthly basis, inflation rose 0.30 percent in July. Highland Papua posted the highest monthly increase at 1.65 percent, followed by South Papua at 1.44 percent and Gorontalo at 1.34 percent.

Core inflation, which excludes administered and volatile prices, accelerated to 2.32 percent year on year in July, suggesting continued growth in people's purchasing power.
