JAKARTA, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported on Friday that foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia reached 1.42 million in June 2025, marking an increase in numbers but a decline in average spending per visitor.

The June figure was up 8.42 percent from May 2025 and 18.2 percent from the same month last year.

"The majority of visits are by Australian tourists, and the increase in arrivals through Ngurah Rai Airport is partly due to more flights to Bali," said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics, Pudji Ismartini, at a press conference.

By country, Malaysia accounted for the largest share of foreign visitors at 16.7 percent, followed by Singapore at 13.0 percent and Australia at 10.9 percent.

From January to June 2025, foreign tourist arrivals totaled 7.05 million, up 9.44 percent compared to the same period in 2024.

Despite the rising numbers, tourists spent less during the second quarter of 2025. The average expenditure per visit fell to 1,199.71 U.S. dollars, down from the previous quarter.
