SUVA, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva has reported over 560 diabetes-related foot surgeries in the first half of this year, with nearly 30 percent being major amputations.
Dr. Sela Koyamaibole confirmed these alarming figures, highlighting the urgent need for greater public awareness and early intervention to save both limbs and lives, Fiji Broadcasting Corporation reported on Thursday.
Koyamaibole said the hospital is managing the high number of cases through a multidisciplinary team approach, involving vascular surgeons, diabetes specialists, nurses, and wound care professionals. ■
