HANOI, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's capital Hanoi plans to install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at parking lots as it prepares to ban gasoline-powered motorbikes inside Ring Road 1 starting July 2026, Vietnam News Agency reported Wednesday.
Nguyen Duc Vinh, deputy director of the Hanoi Parking Company, said that about 40 out of more than 150 parking lots managed by the company have been identified as suitable for EV charging station installation.
Construction could begin as early as August, pending approval from local authorities, he said.
The city aims to equip at least 10 percent of its existing parking lots with EV charging facilities by 2026, he said.
The Vietnamese government earlier announced that gasoline-powered motorbikes and mopeds will be banned from inner-city Hanoi from mid-2026 as part of efforts to reduce air pollution. ■
