MANILA, July 30 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine national government's total outstanding debt reached 17.27 trillion pesos (roughly 298.84 billion U.S. dollars) as of end-June, 2.1 percent higher than the debt incurred in May, due to the strong investor demand for government securities, the country's Bureau of Treasury said Wednesday.
The bureau said the government continues to prioritize domestic borrowings, which comprised 69.2 percent of the total debt portfolio as of end-June. External obligations only consisted of the remaining 30.8 percent.
Total domestic debt reached 11.95 trillion pesos (roughly 206.78 billion dollars) as of end-June, slightly up by 1.4 percent from May, while external debt stood at 5.32 trillion pesos (approximately 92.05 billion dollars), 3.5 percent higher than the previous month.
Meanwhile, the bureau said the national government guaranteed obligations remained stable, posting a marginal increase of 0.4 percent to 345.11 billion pesos (about 5.97 billion dollars) from the previous month. ■
