YANGON, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar has reported 5,066 dengue fever cases and 26 deaths between Jan. 1 and July 19 this year, according to the Ministry of Health on Wednesday.
The figures were higher than the same period in 2024, an official from the ministry told Xinhua.
During the period, Yangon has the highest number of cases, followed by Tanintharyi region, he said.
The ministry said it has been taking preventive measures since March, including giving instructions to schools, households, and public places, he said.
Health teams were conducting surveillance, spraying insecticides, and adding larvicide to water containers with the help of relevant departments, he added.
In 2024, the country recorded 6,400 cases and 15 deaths from dengue fever, according to the ministry. ■
