JERUSALEM, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Israeli defense electronics firm Elbit Systems said Monday that it secured a 260-million-U.S. dollar contract to supply infrared self-protection systems for Germany's Airbus A400M transport aircraft fleet.

The six-year deal followed a procurement decision by the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Operations of the Bundeswehr, Germany's armed forces, the company said in a statement.

The directed infrared countermeasures systems, called J-MUSIC, defend aircraft against infrared-guided missiles, particularly portable anti-aircraft threats. Utilizing fiber lasers and thermal imaging, the technology detects, tracks, and disrupts incoming missiles autonomously without crew intervention, according to the statement.

The lightweight systems can easily integrate with various aircraft and missile warning systems, according to the statement.
