SARAJEVO, July 24 (Xinhua) -- The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday adopted the Bill on the Regulator, Transmission, and Electricity Market, marking a significant step in aligning the country's energy sector with European Union (EU) standards.
The bill, proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, aims to transpose 16 EU directives and implement the EU's Electricity Integration Package. It sets the foundation for establishing an organized electricity market and a national power exchange.
The bill had been stalled since 2012 before consensus was reached this year.
BiH is made up of two autonomous entities, the RS, with a predominantly Serbian population, and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with mostly Bosniaks and Croats. The two entities have coexisted under a weak central government. ■
