MEXICO CITY, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 75,000 Mexicans have been repatriated from the United States so far this year, as a result of U.S. President Donald Trump's hardline immigration policies, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Wednesday.
At least 45,000 of the repatriated Mexicans have received various types of government support, including job offers, the president said at her daily press conference.
For those who opt for voluntary deportation but have no repatriation paperwork, they can go to any immigration offices in Mexico to get financial aid, as well as legal and emotional counseling, she added.
On Tuesday, Sheinbaum confirmed that 14 Mexican citizens were being held at an immigration detention center in the Everglades in Florida, known as "Alligator Alcatraz." Mexico is working on securing their immediate repatriation, she said.
On the same day, Sheinbaum pushed back against U.S. suggestion that Mexican drug cartels could soon deploy weaponized drones at the border against the United States.
"There's no information that there are new drones at the border right now," Sheinbaum told reporters. ■
