PHNOM PENH, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian soldiers on Thursday clashed with Thai soldiers at a disputed border area, a Cambodian defense spokesperson said.
Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, undersecretary of state and spokesperson for Cambodia's Ministry of National Defense, said the armed clashes took place along the Cambodia-Thailand border in Oddar Meanchey province.
"Thai military had launched first an armed assault on Cambodian forces, and Cambodian forces acted strictly within the bounds of self-defense, responding to an unprovoked incursion by Thai troops that violated our territorial integrity," she said in a statement. ■
