SINGAPORE, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's core inflation remained unchanged at 0.6 percent year-on-year in June, consistent with May's reading, according to official data released Wednesday.

In a joint statement, the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Monetary Authority of Singapore noted that an uptick in retail and other goods inflation was offset by declines across all other major components of the core Consumer Price Index (CPI).

On a month-on-month basis, core prices declined by 0.1 percent. The core CPI excludes accommodation and private transport costs to better reflect underlying, demand-driven inflation.

Overall inflation also held steady at 0.8 percent year-on-year in June. While private transport inflation edged higher, this was balanced by lower accommodation inflation, the statement said.
