COLOMBO, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka received 61.1 billion U.S. dollars in remittances from overseas workers over the past 10 years, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra told Parliament recently.
Hemachandra said these remittances, recorded between 2015 and May 2025, totaled 13,946 billion rupees, according to data from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
He added that, as of Feb. 25 this year, about 1.35 million Sri Lankans were employed abroad.
Foreign remittances are a main source of foreign revenue for Sri Lanka. ■
