TEHRAN, July 22 (Xinhua) -- At least 40 people were injured in a fire that erupted on Tuesday at a large commercial complex in Iran's northern port city of Bandar-e Anzali, state-run IRIB news agency reported.

Of those injured, five were transferred to the hospital and the rest were discharged after receiving primary treatment at the scene, IRIB quoted Jamshid Mohammadi, head of Gilan province's emergency medical services organization, as saying.

He noted that 12 of the wounded were firefighters, who had suffered gas poisoning while trying to extinguish the fire, adding they were treated at the scene.

The fire erupted at the warehouse of the Venus complex in the Anzali Free Zone at around 9:45 a.m. local time (0615 GMT), the official news agency IRNA quoted the zone's spokesman Mehdi Kazemian as saying.

According to IRNA, even though 150 firefighters were at the scene trying to contain the blaze, 90 percent of the complex's second floor, covering an area of 2 hectares, had been completely burned.

It added that the cause of the incident was thought to be power fluctuations, saying no deaths had been reported so far.
