JAKARTA, July 23 (Xinhua) -- The Authority of Indonesia's Mount Rinjani National Park in West Nusa Tenggara province will temporarily close all hiking trails from Aug. 1 to 10, an official said on Wednesday.

Head of Mount Rinjani National Park Yarman said the closure is intended to allow evaluation and improvement of safety and security systems within the park.

"This closure will be in effect for 10 days, from August 1 to 10, 2025," he said in a statement issued in the provincial capital of Mataram.

According to Yarman, the closure applies to all six designated climbing routes.

For climbers who have already purchased entry tickets for dates between Aug. 1 and 10, he said they may reschedule their hikes for the remainder of the 2025 climbing season.

"Climbers can also claim a refund for their entry tickets and insurance if they decide to cancel their plans to climb Mount Rinjani," he added.
