ISLAMABAD, July 22 (Xinhua) -- At least 21 people have been killed, including 12 children, and six others injured in rain-related accidents during the last 24 hours in Pakistan, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Tuesday.

The country's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is the hardest hit area, where 10 people died in different rain-related incidents and subsequent flooding, followed by five dead in federal capital Islamabad, said the NDMA.

At least three fatalities were reported in northern Gilgit-Baltistan region, two in southern Sindh province and one in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir.

Floods have also damaged more than 50 houses, according to the NDMA.

At least 242 people have been killed in nearly a month and 598 others injured as heavy monsoon rains triggered flash floods and other incidents in the country, the disaster management authority has said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for preparations to be in place to deal with any potential situation in the coming days as well as restoration of highways and connecting roads affected by floods.
