KABUL, July 22 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan interim government, in a major step to enhance local products and strengthen domestic economy, has opened an industrial complex on Monday, the state-run Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA) reported.
Several factories destroyed during decades of war have been revived and are set to begin production as an industrial complex to reduce Afghanistan's dependence on foreign goods, the state-owned media outlet reported, citing Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the acting deputy prime minister on economic affairs.
The industrial complex would produce 105 different types of goods ranging from agricultural machinery to spare parts of transport vehicles, electrical equipment and water canal tools, according to the official.
Baradar also called upon Afghan and foreign companies to invest and contribute to the rebuilding process of the post-war nation.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the complex, Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, the acting deputy prime minister on administrative affairs, said that the industrial complex would also create job opportunities. ■
