JAKARTA, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Investment in Indonesia's upstream oil and gas sector rose by 28.6 percent year on year to 7.19 billion U.S. dollars in the first half of 2025, according to a statement released Tuesday by the country's Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Task Force.

Head of the task force Djoko Siswanto highlighted that government efforts to improve the investment climate have strengthened investor confidence and trust in the sector.

"Moreover, the upstream oil and gas sector is one of the pillars of national energy security," he said in the statement.

For the full year, the task force projects investment in the sector will reach between 16.5 billion and 16.9 billion dollars, up from last year's 14.4 billion dollars.

Siswanto noted that rising investment in the sector has supported its growth, which in turn could help boost national oil production.
