BUCHAREST, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Romania's Ministry of National Defense has signed a 2-billion-euro (2.33 billion U.S. dollars) framework agreement with Israel's Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. for the purchase of advanced SHORAD-VSHORAD air defense systems, the ministry announced on Monday.
The agreement, concluded through Romania's state-owned defense procurement company Romtehnica SA, includes the acquisition of six integrated short- and very short-range air defense systems. The deal also covers a training and simulation center, ammunition, and logistical support.
The agreement spans seven years, with three follow-up contracts planned. The first two VSHORAD systems are expected to be delivered within three years of the initial contract signing.
Designed to counter a wide range of aerial threats, including drones and cruise missiles, the SHORAD-VSHORAD systems offer enhanced mobility, operational efficiency, and seamless integration into modern defense networks, the ministry said. ■
