CAIRO, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met Thursday with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud in the northern Egyptian city of Alamein, where they reaffirmed the strength of bilateral ties and discussed key regional developments, said the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in a statement.
The two ministers reviewed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, with Abdelatty outlining Egypt's ongoing efforts to secure a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the enclave. He also highlighted Egypt's intention to host a conference for the reconstruction of Gaza.
They also addressed other regional crises, including the developments in Sudan, Libya, and Syria.
Both ministers stressed support for a political solution in Libya free from foreign interference and highlighted joint efforts to end the conflict in Sudan.
The two top diplomats condemned recent Israeli airstrikes on Syria, including attacks on the presidential palace and the Syrian Army General Command headquarters in Damascus.
"Both sides emphasized the necessity of Israel's withdrawal from all Syrian territories it has occupied since 1967, including the Golan Heights, and stressed the importance of respecting Syria's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity," according to the statement.
The meeting reflected a shared vision between Cairo and Riyadh to strengthen bilateral ties and intensify joint diplomatic efforts aimed at addressing regional crises and advancing political solutions, with both ministers describing bilateral ties as "historical." ■
