TOKYO, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended higher on Thursday, as heavyweight semiconductor-related shares trimmed earlier losses.

Japan's benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, ended up 237.79 points, or 0.60 percent, from Wednesday at 39,901.19.

The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 20.41 points, or 0.72 percent, higher at 2,839.81.

The Nikkei index was initially weighed down by weak chip shares after ASML Holding N.V., a major global supplier of chip-making equipment, warned on Wednesday that it may not achieve revenue growth in 2026 citing global tensions.

However, the benchmark index later reversed course as chip issues erased much of their losses, analysts said.
