SEOUL, July 17 (Xinhua) -- South Korean households' net assets grew last year on the back of higher housing prices, joint data from the statistical office and the central bank showed Thursday.

The average per-capita net assets, owned by households and nonprofit organizations, were valued at 252.51 million won (181,540 U.S. dollars) at the end of 2024, up 3.3 percent from a year earlier, according to joint data by Statistics Korea and the Bank of Korea (BOK).

The total value of net assets, possessed by households and nonprofit organizations, swelled 3.4 percent from a year earlier to 13,068 trillion won (9.39 trillion dollars) at the end of 2024.

The value of non-financial assets mounted 2.2 percent on higher real estate prices, while the value of financial assets increased 5.1 percent due to an expansion in deposits, insurance and pensions.

The proportion of property value to the total value of net assets, owned by households and nonprofit organizations, declined to 74.6 percent at the end of 2024 from 75.4 percent a year earlier.

The holdings of cash and deposits accounted for 19.4 percent of the total net assets, with the possession of insurance and pensions taking up 12.1 percent.
