ADDIS ABABA, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopian Airlines, Africa's leading carrier, has launched a new daily passenger flight service to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The new service will take the bilateral cooperation to a new level and contribute significantly to trade, investment and tourism between the two countries, said Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines Group Mesfin Tasew on Tuesday at the launch event in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.
He added that the airline's new route will enhance the connectivity between Africa and the Middle East, creating an opportunity to further strengthen the cooperation between the two regions.
The airline currently operates over 100 weekly passenger flights to 13 destinations across the Middle East and the Gulf region. In June, Ethiopian Airlines also launched a new four-times-weekly passenger service to Sharjah in the UAE, according to a statement released by the company on Tuesday.
This new route is part of a landmark joint venture agreement between Ethiopian Airlines and the UAE's Etihad Airways, designed to foster closer cooperation between the two carriers. The agreement supports joint development and expansion of routes between Ethiopia and the UAE and strengthens connectivity across their respective global networks, the statement said. ■
