JAKARTA, July 10 (Xinhua) -- A chief of narcotics unit in Nunukan regency, North Kalimantan province, has been arrested along with six of his subordinates for alleged involvement in drug trafficking, Indonesia's National Police said on Thursday.
The arrests took place on Wednesday on Sebatik Island. All seven officers were now being questioned by the National Police's internal affairs division in Jakarta.
Eko Hadi Santoso, chief of the National Police's narcotics directorate, told local media that the institution would never tolerate members who violate the law, particularly in drug-related cases.
According to Indonesian drug laws, individuals found guilty of drug-related crimes face harsh penalties, ranging from a minimum of five years in prison to the death penalty. ■
