VIENTIANE, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Laos will launch key environmental projects in six provinces as part of a broader effort to strengthen environmental conservation and protect the country's natural resources.

The projects were funded by the Environment Protection Fund (EPF), a government fund established for supporting natural resources management and environmental protection effectively and sustainably, according to a report from the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on Tuesday.

The projects will be implemented in Luang Namtha, Khammuan, Bokeo, Champasak, Phongsaly, and Xayabouly provinces. The projects will run for three years with a focus on forest protection and the promotion of sustainable environmental practices. Additional initiatives include improving waste management at hospitals and promoting the 3Rs -- reduce, reuse, and recycle -- at schools.

The initiative aims to raise awareness of climate change adaptation, enhance environmental management, and support forest conservation and sustainable livelihoods in protected areas.

The Environment Protection Fund provides funding to manage land, protect natural resources, preserve wildlife habitats, make critical capital improvements for conservation, and provide access to local people.
